Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool 2 is one of the most exciting films to hit the screens this month (May 18). And while everyone is eager to watch the movie, we have an interesting scoop for you before you watch it. We all know Ryan’s character – Wade a.k.a Deadpool is a crass, foul-mouthed and hyper-violent character, who will go to any length. The jokes in the first part not only made us ROFL, but some even startled us. However, you won’t be able to able to see the unrestricted side of Deadpool in the sequel. This is because of the fact that certain edits, especially a few extreme jokes, were removed from the script that Ryan Reynolds co-wrote with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. From killing baby hitler to taking a dig at Disney, a few scenes had to be chopped off because they were too drastic. And we have all the details of these edits!
If you remember, in the trailer of Deadpool 2, we saw Ryan take a dig at the DC Universe. To make things even more interesting, they labelled Fox (the producers) as “the studio that killed Logan.” However, while speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Ryan revealed that Fox did draw the line at one particular crack at Disney. He mentioned, “This is a sore spot for me because there’s a joke in the movie that is not in the movie now because — I’m probably not even allowed to say this — Fox made me take it out. It had more to do with Disney, and they made me take it out. As I look back at it, I think maybe that was a wise decision.” (ALSO READ – Deadpool 2 movie review: Ryan Reynolds’ undiminished charm and Zazie Beetz’s badass avatar will make you root for them)
For those of you who don’t know, Disney is currently in the process of taking over Fox and its assets. So one day the Marvel Cinematic Universe could be merged with the X-Men universe and they wouldn’t want a joke to ruin it all. However, that’s not it. A more dramatic and bold post-credit scene was removed for being too extreme!
Writers Reese and Wernick mentioned to Uproxx that they had written a scene where Deadpool goes back in time and kills baby Hitler. They had even shot it, but they realised it was too extreme from audience reactions that they gathered from a test screening and hence, they left it out. As Reese mentioned, “We shot it and we put it in front of an audience. He’s got the crib and he’s standing in the German nursery and he’s leaning over the crib to do it and there was kind of this, ‘ohhhhh.’ And we thought we don’t want to leave the crowd on an ‘ohhhhh’. So it ended up coming out. Our last moment was Deadpool saying ‘Maximum effort!’ as he goes in to throttle the baby. It does make you squeamish.” (ALSO READ – [Spoiler] Shah Rukh Khan fans will have a double treat while watching Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 2 – here’s why)
